The universal charging box for home charging

NexBlue Edge is a highly efficient charging station for electric vehicles that works on both 1- and 3-phase with up to 22 kW charging power. Designed to provide a seamless charging experience for your electric vehicle.

NexBlue Edge is intelligent and adapts to all electric cars, supports all amperages (6-32A) and all power grids (IT, 230V/1+3-phase, TT and TN 400V). The table shows which effects you can expect from the various power grids and amperage:

* Maximum power depends on the car supporting the power grid + the power

It will automatically detect whether the car supports 1- or 3-phase charging. The charging box is equipped with one type 2 connector/outlet so that all types of rechargeable vehicles can charge from the charging station with the correct charging cable.

The charging box has been developed by technology experts from Norway, Sweden and Hong Kong, and meets all safety requirements related to product and installation standards. Tested internally and by third-party accredited technical monitoring organizations.

NexBlue Edge is the winner of the iF Design award in 2024 and wanted to meet the aesthetic preferences of the Nordic and Western European markets. Edge uses a Nordic minimalist geometric style, mixed with a "meteorite" design. This, in combination with the fact that the product is very compact and functional, and allows customers to monitor and adjust charging from anywhere, meant that the product won the award. The modular design promotes sustainability by being easy to install and expand.

Safe and secure charging

With 19 sensors, NexBlue Edge continuously monitors changes in amperage, voltage, temperature, so that you are protected and safe before, during and after charging the vehicle. Automatic self-test of the earth fault sensor (RCD-DD) every 24 hours and before each charging session.

Automatic detection of mains

The charging station supports all mains so that you always get the most out of your charging. It detects which power grid it is connected to so you don't have to think about it.

Local OCPP

NexBlue Edge has OCPP 1.6 J support locally in the charging station, thus providing integration opportunities with all operators. This means that all operators can control your charging box via the OCPP protocol.

Certified by TÜV and SGS

Certified by TÜV and SGS

NexBlue Edge complies with all necessary safety standards for both the product and its installation, which ensures a high degree of safety compliance. The charging station has therefore received an EU type approval certificate from SGS.

NexBlue Edge has a built-in RDC-DD (6 mA DC), and has received the test certificate from the German TÜV (Technischer Überwachungsverein). This indicates that the technology used is safe and complies with all specified regulatory standards (IEC 62955:2018).

Always online

Each individual charging station has a built-in eSIM with 4G/LTE connection to the telephone network so that you can control your charging box from anywhere. This subscription is free and included in the purchase price.

Always updated charging box

The charging station automatically connects to the cloud solution and is continuously updated with the latest functionality via over-the-air (OTA) software updates. This means that you have purchased a safe and future-oriented product.

EcoPilot - Smart charging integrated in the APP

With EcoPilot mode, you charge smartly according to Nordpool's spot prices. Choose when you want to have the car fully charged, and the software will charge the car during the cheapest hours.

Reliable local control with Bluetooth®

With new Bluetooth functionality, you can control and monitor your charger locally, without relying on cloud services or an internet connection. Or if the charging box has neither 4G/LTE nor WiFi coverage.

Future-proof — easy to install and scalable

NexBlue Edge's charging system allows you to have several charging boxes as the communication between the charging boxes is wireless. Installing several charging boxes in an existing installation only requires an earth fault circuit breaker type A in front of each charging box.

Configuration

With the NexBlue Partner APP, it is quick to configure the charging box. Can be done either by scanning the QR code or via Bluetooth.

Dynamic load balancing and phase balancing

NexBlue Edge makes full use of the available electrical capacity with dynamic load balancing across all charging stations so that you always get maximum charging. Load balancing supports up to 3 units per "plant" and will work offline. The load and phase balancing optimizes the available power for charging and:

  • Monitors the charging system's available charging current ( requires NexBlue ZEN )
  • Ensures that the available charging current is distributed and used equally
  • Does not overload courses or set limit values
  • Balances the power and phases of the charging stations

The load and phase balancing takes place using wireless technology which normally does not require additional infrastructure (cabling), cloud connection or internet. This is done via Nexus radio frequency, alternatively WiFi or LAN.

The first charging station to be configured becomes the main unit (master/primary) in the system. The other units (secondary) communicate with the main unit, so that available capacity can be distributed automatically between all connected units.

The charging boxes have a soft start of charging which ensures that the current course is not overloaded at the start of charging and thus you also avoid fuses tripping due to high and short current pulses.

Dynamic load balancing

New Advanced Measurement and Control Systems (AMS), also called AMS electricity meters, mean that in the future we will have to pay for the electricity settled on an hourly basis. NexBlue Edge is smart and gives you the opportunity to charge your car(s) when electricity is cheapest, and at the same time adapt to consumption in the home via NexBlue ZEN. Likewise, you can easily override the smart charging and start charging immediately if you need to use the car in a couple of hours. You can easily switch between smart and fast charging in the app.

User access

You can activate access control on the NexBlue Edge so that it must be activated through NFC/RFID or the Easee app. This prevents unauthorized persons from charging at your charging station(s).

Measurement of power consumption

A built-in power meter in each charging station gives you control and an overview of power consumption via the app or the cloud service. You can easily create consumption reports for each user or charging station. This means that you can easily have several users at one charging station and still distribute the electricity costs fairly.

Application

The charging station comes with an app that makes it easy to keep track of consumption, lock and unlock the charging cable, and schedule charging. More functions will come over time so that you always have full control over your NexBlue Edge charging station. You can find the app on the App Store or Google Play.

Questions and answers

Installation

Is it safe to have the cable entry at the top of the charging robot and can it be left outside?
Yes, the product has been developed for cable entry from the top, as it has been taken into account that water can enter if the gaskets do not seal completely against the cable.

Will other connected protections affect the charging station's functionality?
No, it is recommended that an external ground fault protection type A be installed on the charging course in accordance with current regulations. The protection in the charger will not be affected by or affect the function of other external protections.

It is not technically problematic with a pre-connected earth fault protection type B. The only thing that can theoretically happen is that the B protection in the cabinet can trip before the protection in the charger.
The built-in protection in the charger is electronic and switches off the power to the electric car if it measures a DC leakage current of 4-6mA and/or an AC leakage current of 20-30mA.
This should therefore provide a certain selectivity in the system, so that any external A protection is not normally triggered by an earth fault (AC and/or DC). The electronic protection in the charger is easily reset by plugging the charging cable in and out of the electric car's charging socket.

Access control, availability and security

Can I lock my charging robot so that it is inaccessible to others?
Yes, via the app

Can I lock the Type 2 cable permanently in my charging robot?
Yes, it is done via the app (blue tooth / WiFi / 4G) or the cloud solution.

I can't get my charging cable out. What can I do?
Push/press the plug/plug in, then lock and unlock via the app again.

Load balancing

Can the charging robot dynamically load balance with my house so that I avoid my main fuse blowing?
Yes, but this requires external hardware that connects to your power meter (NexBlue ZEN).
