Environmental Protection Agency - EPA
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is responsible for providing the fuel economy data used on the fuel economy label (or window sticker) on all new cars and light trucks. EPA periodically updates its methods to correct for changes in vehicle technologies, driver behavior and/or driving conditions. The 2008 changes were sweeping revisions to the entire method that lowered fuel economy estimates for all vehicles. The 2017 updates will reduce some fuel economy estimates by 1 mile per gallon (MPG) and a small number by 2 MPG.
